Control D filters out malicious websites, ads, and trackers at the DNS level. Setup takes under 2 minutes and works automatically once configured.
Check for VPN software first
Control D works at the DNS level and may conflict with an active VPN — the VPN can override DNS settings and prevent the web firewall from functioning. If this device uses a VPN, check with your IT manager before proceeding to make sure they're compatible.
Open the downloaded file
Open the controld.dmg file from your Downloads folder. Double-click the Control D app inside to run the installer.
Enter your Resolver ID
The setup app will ask for a configuration code. Copy and paste it in, then click Configure.

Allow the VPN configuration
macOS will ask to add a VPN configuration — click Allow and enter your Mac password if prompted. Control D uses this to filter DNS traffic locally, without routing your browsing through any external server.
Web Firewall is active
You'll see "Configured" in the app. Control D runs silently in the background and restarts automatically with your Mac.
Run the downloaded installer
Open the controld.exe file from your Downloads folder. Click Yes when Windows asks for admin permission.
Enter your Resolver ID
The setup app will ask for a configuration code. Copy and paste it in, then click Configure.

Run the one-line installer
Open a terminal and run this command — it downloads, installs, and configures Control D automatically using your Resolver ID:

The ctrld service starts automatically and persists across reboots. Run ctrld status to confirm.
Install Control D from Google Play
Tap the link or scan the QR code on your Android device to open the Control D listing directly.
Enter your Resolver ID
Open the app and paste in your Resolver ID when prompted.
